Spider vein treatment of the legs starts with in person examination with Dr. Adam Isadore to evaluate the extent of venous disease and to create a comprehensive treatment plan. Dr. Adam Isadore performs all of the spider vein treatments at Oceana Vein Specialists to ensure outstanding results. Spider vein treatment usually involves addressing the larger blue/green veins that feed spider vein complexes, making is imperative that a qualified vein specialist performs these types of treatments.

Spider vein treatment typically consists of sclerotherapy to directly inject these small veins with an irritant solution, which causes them to close and fade with time. Treatment usually takes several sessions and visits in order to have complete resolution.

How is Spider Vein Treatment Performed?

Spider vein treatment involves using a tiny needle to inject a small volume of irritant solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to close and fade. Over time, the body will absorb the treated spider vein and it will disappear and lighten in color. Most patients only describe mild discomfort during the procedure.

What Can I Expect After Spider Vein Sclerotherapy?

Directly after spider vein sclerotherapy, the area may be red and irritated, which is a normal outcome and usually subsides within the first few days. Over time, the veins will respond to treatment and begin to disappear and lighten in color. Generally, normal activities can be resumed immediately following sclerotherapy.  Compression stockings must be worn after sclerotherapy for about 5-7 days to enhance vein closure and to reduce discoloration.  You can bring your own medical (30-40 grade) compression stockings or purchase a pair from us, stocking price is $40-$50 depending on style.

How Many Sclerotherapy Sessions Will I Need?

Spider vein sclerotherapy is a tiered treatment approach and typically multiple treatment sessions spread out over several months are required, depending on the extent of disease. The full benefit of sclerotherapy may not be realized until 4-5 weeks after injection, at which point the same veins will need to be injected again in order to achieve further fading.  At Oceana Vein Specialists, Dr. Adam Isadore will inject all visible spider veins that are of concern, typically taking 45-60 minutes for a session.

How Much Does Spider Vein Sclerotherapy Cost?

Sclerotherapy for surface spider veins is typically considered a cosmetic procedure, and is thus typically not covered by insurance. Patients are charged per sessions of spider vein sclerotherapy, and all areas of concern will be injected at each sessions.  Dr. Adam Isadore will create a comprehensive treatment package in order to fully address your cosmetic concerns. Typically, in order to achieve complete resolution and outstanding cosmetic results, at least 3 sessions are needed.
